Local Law 97: Turning Compliance Into an Opportunity

A Letter From The CEO, Dario Gristina | October 7, 2026
At Genergy, we see Local Law 97 as more than a compliance requirement. It’s an opportunity to better understand how buildings use energy, identify waste, improve efficiency, and make meaningful progress toward reducing carbon emissions.
New York City enacted Local Law 97 in 2019, establishing emissions limits for many of the city’s larger buildings. Those limits took effect in 2024 and will become more stringent over time, putting greater focus on how buildings use energy, manage emissions, and plan for the future.
For building owners and managers, that can feel like a lot to navigate. That’s where Genergy can help.
For more than 40 years, our family has helped building owners understand and manage their energy. Today, we’re bringing that experience together with technology, engineering expertise, and the energy data we already manage for our customers to help them navigate these evolving requirements.
Our team can support customers with:
-
- Local Law 97: Emissions reporting, RDP certification, compliance assessments, and decarbonization planning
-
- Local Law 84 / 133: Annual energy and water benchmarking
-
- Local Law 87: Energy audits and retro-commissioning
-
- Local Law 88: Lighting upgrades and tenant submetering
Our goal is simple: make energy easier to understand, easier to manage, and easier to improve.
We want to help our customers understand where they are today, where they need to go, and what steps they can take to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and reach their carbon emission goals.
This is the next chapter of energy management, and we’re proud to help our customers navigate it.
